Randy Peterson: Consequences of Defunding Police

Broadcast Running Time: 21:09

With another shooting in Minneapolis this past week, new calls for defunding the police are being resurrected.  Randy Peterson (texaspolicy.com), Senior Researcher at the Texas Public Policy Foundation, joins us today to discuss the defunding movement and the inevitable consequences that will stem from it.  Police stop being proactive, crime rates increase, and decisions are second-guessed in the field.  The majority of people don’t want defunding, especially minorities, so why is it such a seemingly popular narrative?

John finishes up today’s podcast by looking at how we went from policing is good and protective to its systemically racist and needs to be abolished.
