Stephanie Slade: The Seeds that Destroyed Soviet Communism

Broadcast Running Time: 21:57

We take a look back at history today with a spotlight on Pope John Paul II and the beginning of the end of Soviet Communism.  Joining us is Stephanie Slade (reaosn.com), Managing Editor at Reason Magazine, who wrote a great article on JP2.  She and John look at Cardinal Wojtyla’s election as Pope, his visit to Poland and the subsequent beginning of the Solidarity movement, and the assassination attempt in 1981 that would seem to indicate his threat to Communism.  And after another Polish leader was actually killed, the repressed people there had had enough and said that they were no longer going to live the way the tyrants said they must.  It’s a great history lesson for today.
