Big Tech censorship

Facebook went down last week as a so-called whistleblower testified before Congress about the social media giant. That and a lot of other topics for today's show. Dr. Russ White (rule11.tech), expert on IT infrastructure and architecture, is back with us today for another spirited conversation. Was the whistleblower testimony a false flag? What do the powers that be want to ultimately do with censorship? John and Russ look at the Facebook outage as well as the security of Bitcoin. They also discuss deep learning programs and algorithms that make decisions in social media.

"History doesn't repeat itself, but it does rhyme:" a quote attributed to author Mark Twain. We see today the seedlings of socialism beginning to burst through here in the U.S. and it looks awfully familiar. First up this week is Andrei Znamenski (notesonliberty.com), Professor of History at the University of Memphis. He grew up in the Soviet Union before coming here in 1991 and is an expert in the lead-up to the Bolshevik movement of 1917. He describes the beginning of communism in Russia where they would shut down intellectual debate, control the media, and institute a repressive cancel culture. Where have we heard that before?

The Christian Church has been affected by this change, with some leaders and pastors compromising the Church's doctrines to cater to the secularized culture. Back with us this week after a long hiatus is Ken Ham (answersingenesis.org), CEO and Founder of Answers in Genesis, the Creation Museum, and the world-renowned Ark Encounter. He looks to help prepare Christians to take a bold stand, defend God's Word, and take on the worldly culture. The Church should cease compromising because in the troubled times ahead, with the enemies already inside the gates, the solid foundation of Truth will be a much needed weapon.

Finally this week, we take a look at censorship and the violation of the free speech rights of millions of Americans. Wrapping up the show is May Davis (iwf.org), Visiting Fellow at the Independent Women's Forum. She discusses President Trump's class action lawsuit against social media companies, the need to apply fair rules to everyone equally, and how the repercussions of Big Tech's censorship could help change the culture and founding principles of the country.

A few weeks ago, former President Donald Trump filed a class action lawsuit against Google, Twitter, and Facebook for violating the free speech rights of millions of Americans. What's behind the lawsuit and what does it have to do with Section 230? Joining us today is May Davis (iwf.org), Visiting Fellow at the Independent Women's Forum. She discusses the publisher versus platform issue, how the lawsuit could succeed given precedent, and regardless of the outcome, the need to apply the rules evenly to everyone. The repercussions of Big Tech's censorship could reach farther than just who gets to speak on the internet – it could change the culture and founding principles of the country.

We have a double feature on today's podcast. First up is a brief interview with Brian Kelsey (libertyjusticecenter.org), Senior Attorney with the Liberty Justice Center. He alerts all private schools that there is money available for Covid relief – if you know where to look and ask for it. If you don't, it reverts back to the public schools.

We then transition to the debate over whether online platforms should be considered publishers or editors. Political writer and author Steven Hill (steven-hill.com) joins us to explain both sides of the issue and how policing what Big Tech companies are doing is far more complicated than it sounds. He looks at the differences between the internet in America versus the internet in Europe and the effects of the Facebook law in Germany and Section 230 here. He also discusses algorithms, psychographic profiles, manipulated searches, and surveillance capitalism. Is anyone working to solve these problems?

The state of Florida is becoming a magnet for technology companies, specifically crypto-currency firms, because of the state's business laws. To discuss this and more, Andrea O'Sullivan (jamesmadison.org), Director of the Center for Technology and Innovation at the James Madison Institute is with us today. She discusses the advantages of having a decentralized system of business over a centralized one, namely the ability to communicate directly with users and bypass the potential censorship of Big Tech. Blockchain crypto-currency is moving to decentralization and the powers that be are definitely worried.

Censorship seems to be a popular activity these days, but it has picked up a surprising champion – the mainstream media! Joining us today is John Tierney (city-journal.org), Contributor Editor to the City Journal, who points out that censorship had been ramping up, but since the Capitol violence, it has been unleashed virtually unabated. And as crazy as it sounds, woke leftist media outlets seem to be welcoming it. Conservatives are being banned, but when leftists called for violence during the Trump administration, nothing was done. It's a dangerous plan to ignore the freedoms found in the Constitution – when that happens, totalitarianism isn't far behind.

Back after a long hiatus, John sits down as interviewee with Lee Lancaster on KYMS radio here in the Inland Northwest. The two cover a variety of topics including the fascist censorship we're seeing online, the inevitable push by leftists to take over or outright eliminate the church, and how the education system in the West has become completely hostile to the Christian faith.

Many individual conservatives have been cancelled online for speaking against the leftist orthodoxy, but what happens when an entire website is wiped out? First up on the show this week, we speak with Russ White (rule11.tech), nationwide expert in network infrastructure architecture. He looks at how some Big Tech companies have a virtual monopoly on what gets seen online. If they don't like your speech then you no longer have a digital footprint. This violates free speech and is dangerous. In other words, it's fascism.

Why do voters in minority areas continuously vote for a party that most of the time does not represent their values? John welcomes conservative author and speaker Autry Pruitt (newjourneypac.org) to the show, who examines how Republicans have dropped the ball in minority neighborhoods and churches. He also explains how pastors and church members reconcile their faith with the doctrines of the democrat party. There is a shift to the left in society and in the theology of the church.

The new totalitarianism springing up in the West will praise socialism as a way to infiltrate the Christian church. How then will the church be affected and how should it fight back? Wrapping up the show this week is Dr. Erwin Lutzer (moodymedia.org), Pastor Emeritus of Moody Bible Church, who debunks the myth that socialism and the Bible are compatible. The church is facing many assaults, which is when leftists offer their version of socialistic hope. But Christianity offers true hope and that must be what we lovingly preach moving forward.

It's bad enough to attack and de-platform a single person for speaking against the leftist orthodoxy. It's even worse to shut down an entire internet site or app for the same thing. Joining us today is Russ White (rule11.tech), nationwide expert in network infrastructure architecture. He explains how some Big Tech companies have a virtual monopoly on what gets resolved and what gets seen online, so if they suddenly decide that they don't like your speech then, poof, you no longer have a digital footprint. This is dangerous, it violates free speech, and it looks an awful lot like fascism.

We've seen with Parler what Big Tech can do when platforms challenge not only their preferred narrative, but also their popularity in the marketplace.  On today's podcast, we speak with wireless industry expert Rex Lee (mysmartprivacy.com), founder of My Smart Privacy.  He discusses Big Tech's selectivity and hypocrisy in censorship and the importance of Section 230.  He also looks at what Parler and other companies need to do in the future to keep from being completely wiped out.
