Mary Ann Mendoza: Bordering on Chaos

Broadcast Running Time: 25:55

Few people know how bad our southern border really is. Joining us today is Mary Ann Mendoza (angelfamilies.org), Founder of Angel Families. Her son was killed in 2014 by an illegal criminal who slammed into his car while drunk and high on meth. She and John discuss how the media and politicos are misleading the American people about what's going on at the border. Several GOP governors are uniting to fight the Biden administration's immigration policy, but she contends this should have happened years ago as the governors have more power than they think. She covers several border issues, including remittances and how jobs and education have been negatively affected.

People around the world need to hear and read the Word of God, but rarely do we talk about that need in South America. Joining us today is David Witt (spritofmartyrdom.com), Chief Executive Officer of Spirit of Martyrdom International. He describes the need for God's Word in Venezuela and Colombia and what his organization is doing to provide Bibles and leadership in churches there. God is using the oppressive economic and cultural environment caused by the socialist government in Venezuela to begin a revival of the Christian Church and a renewal of the hearts of citizens, including those in hard-to-reach tribal areas.

John has spoken out about the corruption surrounding civil asset forfeiture for years, but now some jurisdictions are beginning to take notice. Joining us today is CJ Ciaramella (reason.com), Criminal Justice correspondent at Reason Magazine. He shows how Florida has enacted some laws to reform asset forfeiture, but like with anything, those who are abusing the system have found a loophole around the new reform. He looks at the different tactics used during and after seizures, and what some of the money is spent on. If ironclad reform that can withstand loopholes isn't possible, then asset forfeiture should be eliminated.

With immigration, the Christian heart wants to let everyone in to the country, be kind, and minister to their needs.  But the reality can be quite different.  So what's the best approach?  Joining us today to hash things out is Doug Stuart (libertarianchristians.org), CEO of the Libertarian Christian Institute.  He and John look at how open the border should be weighing compassion against the possibility of criminals entering.  They also discuss the wisdom of integrating into a culture once a person moves into a country.  Is it fair to ask?  Is it needed?  Interesting discussion on today's show.

When it comes to declaring sanctuary status, one side of the political aisle says one thing while the other side says the opposite – but it all depends on the issue. First up this week with an even-handed conversation is Jacob Sullum (reason.com), Senior Editor at Reason Magazine. He looks at the questions: what does sanctuary status mean? Should federal laws apply in states? If so, how would that work? Where have the courts stood on these issues? If the rules are good for one side, they should be just as good for the other. The trick is getting both sides to agree to abide by these rules.

It takes someone who grew up under communism to see what's truly happening to America today. Paul Dragu (thenewamerican.com), Communications Director for the John Birch Society, grew up in communist Romania and recognizes many facets from the Communist Manifesto playing out here right now. The Deep State has gradually and intentionally infiltrated academia and other institutions to enact their agenda. But after years of ignoring the warning signs, people are beginning to wake up.

To be called an Uncle Tom today if you're black has a connotation of negativity and of being a sellout. But for those who actually read the book, that doesn't make any sense. Our last guest this week is Derrick Wilburn (poccinterns.com), Founder and Executive Director of Rocky Mountain Black Conservatives. He discusses the essence of Uncle Tom, the man, as well as the book. The ignorance by those who use Uncle Tom as a slur is a product of the radical policies in today's schools that either teach untruths about history and literature or outright forbid teaching them altogether.

John finishes up today's show, analyzing the toxic phenomenon of Wokeism, the new American orthodoxy, a topic written by Larry Eubank in The New English Review.

When it comes to sanctuary cities, whether in regards to immigration or guns or marijuana, one side says one thing and the other side says another. What's the whole story? Back with us today for an even-handed conversation is Jacob Sullum (reason.com), Senior Editor at Reason Magazine. He examines the specifics of what sanctuary status means in regards to state versus federal, who can do what, and what cities and states are actually saying when they declare sanctuary status. Should federal laws apply in states? If so, how would that work? Who has jurisdiction and why? Where have the courts stood on these issues? We look at all of that and more on today's show.
